There is a continuous deficit in rainfall during the last four years resulting in drought and other related problems. The drought is acute during 2002-03. There is drastic increase in area under current follows, indicating rural agriculture economics crises.

The above table shows that 89% farmers in the district are small and marginal farmers and possessing 60% of the land. Where as, 11% of the big farmers are possessing 40% of the land.

 

PRODUCTIVITY OF CROPS:

The productivity of Rice and Jowar is increased when compared to State average. It is observed that the comparison of the productivity for the last five years is fluctuating due to un-favorable seasonal condition.

This shows the agriculture in the district is mostly depends up on rainfall. Action plans are prepared for drought proofing the district to avoid violent fluctuation to rural economy.
